DESCRIPTION

Horizon - Utricularia graminifolia (UG)

Introduction:

Utricularia graminifolia is a striking, grass-like aquatic plant that belongs to the bladderwort family. Native to Southeast Asia, this carnivorous species stands out in aquascaping due to its fine, vibrant green blades that resemble lush lawn grass. Despite its delicate appearance, it is a dynamic carpeting plant capable of spreading across the substrate with a dense, grassy mat. In its tissue culture form, Utricularia graminifolia is lab-grown, pest-free, and algae-free—perfect for aquarists seeking a pristine, uncontaminated start.

Care Requirements:

  • Water Parameters:
    Temperature: 22–28 °C
    pH Range: 5.0–7.0
Water Hardness: Soft water preferred (0–4 dGH)

  • Nutrient Requirements:
Requires nutrient-rich water, preferably supplemented with liquid fertilizers. CO₂ injection is highly recommended for optimal growth and vibrant coloration. While it is carnivorous in nature, it primarily uses its small bladder traps for microfauna in natural habitats—not necessary to feed in aquariums.

  • Tank Setup:
Best used as a foreground carpet in nano to mid-sized tanks. Requires fine-grain, nutrient-rich substrate for root anchoring. Medium to high lighting ensures compact growth and vivid green hues. Should be planted in small clumps to encourage horizontal spreading.

Care Tips:

Thoroughly rinse the tissue culture gel before planting. Avoid burying too deeply—just anchor lightly onto the substrate. Maintain consistent CO₂ and nutrient dosing to prevent melting. Trim regularly to maintain a tidy carpet and encourage lateral growth.

With its lush, grassy appearance and unique carnivorous nature, Utricularia graminifolia makes for an eye-catching and conversation-worthy addition to any aquascape. The clean, lab-grown tissue culture format ensures a healthy start, especially suited for advanced or high-tech setups where precision and beauty go hand in hand.

Images are for display purposes only. As a natural product, plant appearance may vary. Please ensure you have selected either the net pot option or the loose plant option before purchasing.
