Meta Description
Rapidly establish a stable aquarium biofilter with Aquavitro Seed™. A hardy, multi-strain bacterial blend that safely breaks down ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and organic waste in both freshwater and marine systems.
Rapidly and safely establishes the biological filter in new or existing aquariums
Helps prevent “new tank syndrome” by accelerating biological stability
Unique synergistic blend of aerobic, anaerobic, and facultative bacteria
Supports full nitrogen-cycle processing: organics → ammonia → nitrite → nitrate
Designed to thrive across a wide range of aquarium conditions
Suitable for both freshwater and marine systems
Aquavitro Seed™ is formulated specifically for aquariums using a resilient consortium of bacterial strains developed for adaptability and longevity. Unlike many competing products that rely on fragile cultures, Seed™ contains hardy bacteria capable of surviving temperature, pH, and organic-load fluctuations commonly found in real-world aquarium environments.
Its formulation combines:
Nitrifying bacteria – convert toxic ammonia and nitrite into nitrate
Denitrifying bacteria – assist in reducing nitrate levels
Facultative strains – adapt to both oxygen-rich and low-oxygen zones, allowing colonisation throughout filter media, substrate, and hardscape
This comprehensive blend promotes faster biofilter maturity and more consistent long-term biological performance.
Developed by Seachem Laboratories under the aquavitro® line, Seed™ is engineered for professional-level results in everyday aquarium setups.
Application: Biological filter establishment and maintenance
System compatibility: Freshwater and marine aquariums
Bacterial profile: Aerobic, anaerobic, and facultative strains
Functional coverage: Organic waste, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate processing
Shelf life: 4 years from date of manufacture (refer to packaging)
Shake well before use
Turn off UV sterilisers and ozone during dosing
Initial setup (new aquarium):
Day 1: Dose 5 mL per 40 litres
Days 2–7: Dose 5 mL per 80 litres daily
Fish and other aquatic species may be introduced at any time, provided daily dosing is maintained for the full 7-day period.
Ongoing maintenance:
Dose 5 mL per 80 litres once per month
Also recommended after water changes, when adding new fish, or following medication
For best results, ensure good circulation so bacteria can distribute evenly throughout the system.
Many bacterial starters rely on short-lived strains that collapse when conditions drift outside narrow parameters. Aquavitro Seed™ uses carefully selected, robust bacteria designed to adapt and persist, giving you:
Faster biological stabilisation
Greater resilience to environmental fluctuations
Support for both aerobic and anaerobic zones
A more complete approach to nitrogen-cycle management
This makes Seed™ an excellent foundation for new aquariums and a powerful support tool for established systems.
Can Seed™ be used in marine aquariums?
Yes — it is fully compatible with both freshwater and saltwater systems.
Can I add fish while dosing?
Yes. Livestock may be introduced at any time, as long as the full 7-day dosing schedule is followed.
Do I need to turn off UV?
Yes. UV sterilisers and ozone should be switched off during dosing to avoid killing beneficial bacteria.
How often should I use it after cycling?
Monthly dosing, after water changes, when adding new fish, or following medication helps maintain optimal biofilter performance.
