Bakuli Pods

Add natural texture, shelter and botanical character to your aquarium with Bakuli Pods. These small, woody seed pods have a distinctive split, petal-like shape that creates beautiful detail on the substrate and works particularly well in shrimp tanks, blackwater aquariums and naturalistic biotope-inspired setups.

Once submerged, Bakuli Pods deepen considerably in colour, changing from muted earthy browns to rich, warm brown tones. As they begin to age underwater, they help create the natural appearance of leaf litter and fallen seed pods found on forest floors and around waterways.

Like many aquarium botanicals, Bakuli Pods gradually release tannins and other natural organic compounds into the water. These may produce a subtle amber to tea-coloured tint, depending on the quantity used and frequency of water changes. In soft, poorly buffered water, botanicals may also contribute to a gradual reduction in pH.

Their curled, hollow structure creates small spaces for shrimp and shrimplets to explore and shelter, while the surfaces can develop biofilm as the pods mature underwater, providing additional grazing opportunities for shrimp and other small aquarium inhabitants.

Recommended Usage:
As a starting point, we suggest approximately 6–8 Bakuli Pods per 60 litres of aquarium water. There is no strict dosage, and the quantity can be adjusted depending on the desired botanical density and tannin effect.

Please Note:
Bakuli Pods are a 100% natural product, so variations in size, shape, colour and texture are completely normal. Once submerged, the pods will darken and may gradually soften and decompose over time. A light biofilm or fungal-looking growth may appear during the early stages of submersion; this is a natural part of the breakdown process and is commonly grazed by shrimp.

Preparation:
Rinse thoroughly before adding to the aquarium. The pods may initially float but will generally become waterlogged and sink naturally. They can also be pre-soaked if preferred.
