Dennerle Amblystegium serpens – Tissue Culture
Amblystegium serpens, often referred to as “nano moss,” is a delicate, filigree moss species naturally widespread across the Northern Hemisphere, as well as parts of South America and Australia. Its exceptionally fine, upright shoots create a soft, light texture that adds depth and refinement to aquascapes of any size.
Thanks to its compact growth and fresh light-green coloration, Amblystegium serpens provides beautiful contrast when combined with darker mosses or broader-leaved aquatic plants. It is especially well suited for greening roots, stones, and decorative hardscape elements. In nano aquariums and detailed layouts, its subtle structure makes it a versatile and elegant design element.
Produced in sterile in vitro (Tissue Culture) conditions, this plant is free from algae, snails, and pathogens — ensuring a clean and safe start in any aquarium.
Temperature: 10–26°C
pH Range: 5.0–7.0
Hardness: Soft to medium hard water
Amblystegium serpens thrives best in fresh, clear water with stable parameters. It has modest nutrient demands and generally does not require CO₂ supplementation, although low levels (up to 20 mg/L) can support denser growth. Medium to low lighting is sufficient, making it adaptable to a wide range of aquarium setups.
As a slow-growing moss, it benefits from clean conditions and gentle water circulation to prevent debris accumulation between its fine shoots.
Ideal for the foreground, this nano moss can be attached to driftwood, rocks, or decorative elements using thread or plant glue. Its upright, finely branched growth makes it an interesting companion to other moss species, adding variation in texture and height.
Because of its compact size (5–10 cm), it is perfectly suited for nano aquariums, nature-style layouts, or intricate aquascapes where detail and structure play a key role.
Before planting, carefully rinse off the nutrient gel from the tissue culture cup using chlorine-free water. This prevents excess nutrients from entering the aquarium and reduces the risk of algae or mildew formation.
Maintain stable water conditions and ensure good water clarity. Occasional gentle trimming helps keep the moss compact and encourages fresh, healthy shoots. Due to its slow growth rate, patience is essential — but the refined, natural look is well worth the wait.
