DESCRIPTION

Sawbwa resplendens (Asian Rummynose)

Description:
Sawbwa resplendens, commonly known as the Asian Rummynose, is a rare and visually striking nano fish native to Inle Lake in Myanmar. Males exhibit a slender, silver-blue body with a distinctive bright red snout and white-tipped fins, while females are more subdued in color and lack the vibrant facial markings. Their graceful swimming and unique coloration make them a standout addition to peaceful community aquariums.

Care Level: Moderate
Adult Size: 3โ€“3.5 cm
Temperament: Peaceful, active schooling fish
Swimming Level: Mid to upper levels
Lifespan: 2โ€“3 years
Origin: Inle Lake, Myanmar

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 22โ€“26ยฐC

  • pH: 6.5โ€“7.5

  • Hardness: Soft to moderately hard (3โ€“12 dGH)

Tank Setup:
Sawbwa resplendens thrive in well-established, mature aquariums with soft, slightly acidic to neutral water. They do best in a planted setup with plenty of open swimming space, gentle flow, and subdued lighting. Driftwood and leaf litter can help mimic their natural habitat.

Diet:
They accept a variety of small foods, including high-quality micro pellets, crushed flakes, and live or frozen options like baby brine shrimp, daphnia, and cyclops. A varied diet enhances coloration and overall health.

Schooling Behavior:
Best kept in groups of at least 8โ€“10 individuals to encourage natural behavior and reduce stress. Males display to each other in beautiful flashing movements when kept in groups.

Tank Mates:
Ideal tank mates include other peaceful nano fish such as small rasboras, ember tetras, celestial pearl danios, and pygmy corydoras. Avoid boisterous or fin-nipping species.
