Widely distributed in tropical Asia, Limnophila aromatica is also known as marsh weed and is used not only in aquascaping but also as a culinary herb—especially in Vietnamese and Cambodian cuisine. It naturally grows in flooded fields and wetlands, where it thrives in nutrient-rich conditions.
In the aquarium, this plant displays narrow, needle-like leaves with intense coloration ranging from green at the base to vivid pink, reddish-purple, or even magenta at the top, especially under high light and CO₂ injection. Its coloration makes it highly sought after for creating contrast against green or red plants in the background or midground.
Though not difficult to grow, it does best in stable, well-fertilized tanks with strong lighting and good CO₂ levels. In lower-energy tanks, it may grow green and slower with less vibrant tones. Regular trimming encourages bushier growth and propagation is easy via stem cuttings.
