Bucephalandra ‘Brownie Firebird’

Bucephalandra ‘Brownie Firebird’ is a beautiful collector’s Bucephalandra prized for its rich colouration, glossy foliage and elegant, slightly wavy leaves. It makes an exceptional accent plant for aquascapers looking for something more distinctive than the traditional green Buce varieties.

Depending on growing conditions and the age of the leaves, Brownie Firebird can display a range of tones from deep green and olive through to brown, bronze and reddish hues. New growth can be particularly attractive, while mature leaves develop a darker, richer appearance and subtle sheen under aquarium lighting.

Its combination of colour and texture makes Brownie Firebird especially effective when attached to dark driftwood or contrasting stone, where individual plants can be used to create small areas of detail throughout the aquascape.

Why we love it

Brownie Firebird is all about subtle colour and character. Rather than relying on bright green foliage, this variety can develop beautiful darker, earthy tones that provide contrast against fresh green plants, mosses and lighter hardscape.

Its leaves also have enough size and presence to be noticed without overpowering the surrounding aquascape, making it an excellent choice for adding small focal points of premium Bucephalandra throughout a layout.

Important: As with all Bucephalandra, the rhizome should never be buried in the substrate. Attach it to wood or stone and allow the roots to establish naturally.

Art of Aqua Tip: For the best presentation, place Brownie Firebird where light can catch the surface of the leaves. The combination of its darker colouration and glossy leaf texture can look particularly impressive when viewed from slightly above.
