Natural Black & Brown Gravel

Rich, earthy tones for naturally detailed aquascapes.

Natural Black & Brown Gravel is a beautifully varied blend of dark charcoal, grey, brown and earthy-toned stones, complemented by occasional lighter cream and warm mineral tones.

The mixture of colours, shapes and textures creates the irregular appearance found in natural riverbeds and streams, making it an excellent choice for aquascapers looking to move away from uniform substrates and create something with a more organic character.

Its darker overall appearance provides a beautiful foundation for aquatic plants, driftwood and stone while the lighter individual pieces add subtle highlights and visual interest.

Ideal for:

  • Nature-style aquascapes
  • River and stream-inspired layouts
  • Planted aquariums
  • Natural foregrounds
  • Creating transitions around rocks and wood
  • Mixing with sand for detailed riverbeds
  • Freshwater community aquariums

Why we like it

Natural colour variation • Rich earthy tones • Varied texture • Beautiful riverbed appearance

One of the strengths of Natural Black & Brown Gravel is its variation. Rather than every stone being the same colour and shape, the blend of darker and lighter pieces gives the substrate a naturally aged and weathered appearance.

It works particularly well around driftwood and larger hardscape stones, where it can be used to soften transitions and make the different elements of the aquascape feel as though they naturally belong together.

For more detailed layouts, combine it with a finer sand to create gradual transitions from larger gravel into smaller particles — a simple technique that can make a river or stream-inspired aquascape look considerably more realistic.

Preparation:
Rinse thoroughly before use to remove dust and loose particles.
