Depending on growing conditions, its foliage can range from fresh green and bronze to rich reddish-purple and deep purple tones.

Under strong lighting, consistent CO₂ and good nutrition, Limnophila aromatica develops its most intense colours and compact growth. Its upright stems and narrow, textured leaves make it an excellent contrast plant alongside fine-leaved greens, carpeting plants and darker hardscape.
