DESCRIPTION

Bolbitis heteroclita

Bolbitis heteroclita is a compact, slow-growing aquatic fern known for its delicate, finely textured foliage and versatility in both submerged and emersed setups. Often compared to Java Fern for its growth habits, it attaches naturally to hardscape such as wood and rock via its rhizome, making it an excellent choice for aquascapes where structure and texture are key.

This species thrives in stable, well-oxygenated water and performs particularly well in areas of moderate to higher flow, where its fronds remain healthy and vibrant. Like other rhizome plants, it must not be buried in substrate—placing it on hardscape or allowing it to sit gently on top of substrate ensures proper growth and prevents rot. Although undemanding and suitable for beginners, Bolbitis heteroclita benefits from consistent fertilization and, in high-tech systems, CO₂ supplementation for fuller, more vigorous fronds. With its graceful appearance and compact size, it adds refined greenery to nano tanks, mid-ground layouts, and nature-style aquascapes.
