Sun Orange Amano Shrimp

The Sun Orange Amano Shrimp is a stunning colour variant of the popular Amano shrimp, prized for its vibrant orange to golden body that adds a unique splash of colour to any planted aquarium. Combining beauty with practicality, this shrimp is an active algae grazer that helps keep your aquarium clean while bringing constant movement and interest to the aquascape.

Like traditional Amano shrimp, the Sun Orange variety is peaceful and thrives in community aquariums with small, non-aggressive fish. They are excellent scavengers, feeding on algae, biofilm, leftover food and decaying plant matter, making them a valuable addition to a healthy aquarium ecosystem.

They do best in well-established aquariums with stable water parameters, plenty of hiding places, mosses and aquatic plants. While hardy and relatively easy to care for, they appreciate clean, well-oxygenated water and regular water changes.

Quick Facts

  • Common Name: Sun Orange Amano Shrimp
  • Scientific Name: Caridina multidentata (Orange colour variant)
  • Adult Size: 4–6 cm
  • Temperament: Peaceful
  • Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
  • Minimum Tank Size: 30 litres
  • Temperature: 20–27°C
  • pH: 6.5–7.8
  • Diet: Algae, biofilm, sinking shrimp foods, blanched vegetables and high-quality invertebrate pellets.
  • Compatibility: Ideal for planted community aquariums with peaceful fish and other dwarf shrimp.

Interesting Fact: Like standard Amano shrimp, the larvae require brackish water to develop successfully, making captive breeding challenging. Most specimens available in the aquarium trade are therefore imported rather than bred in freshwater aquariums.

The Sun Orange Amano Shrimp is an excellent choice for aquarists looking for an eye-catching algae eater that combines vibrant colour, hardworking behaviour and a peaceful temperament.
