Chaohu Substrate is a dark brown, granular aquarium substrate designed to provide a natural-looking foundation for planted aquariums and aquascaping layouts.
Its rounded, soil-like granules create a softer and more organic appearance than conventional gravel, while the deep earthy brown colour provides a beautiful contrast against fresh green planting, colourful aquatic life, stone and driftwood.
The granular structure makes it particularly well suited to planted layouts, providing a practical substrate in which aquatic plants can be positioned and rooted while maintaining the natural aesthetic of the aquascape.

Chaohu Substrate has a beautifully understated appearance. Rather than the almost-black colour associated with many commercial aqua soils, its earthy brown tones create a warmer and particularly natural-looking base.
The darker substrate also provides excellent visual contrast, helping the greens, reds and finer details of aquatic plants stand out within the finished aquascape.
Its granular texture makes it easy to work with when creating slopes, planting areas and transitions around hardscape, giving the aquascaper greater freedom when shaping the layout.
The substrate is one of the most important visual elements in a planted aquarium. Chaohu's natural brown colour helps connect stone, wood and planting into a cohesive composition without drawing attention away from the aquascape itself.
