Pethia padamya (Odessa Barb)

Common Name: Odessa Barb / Ticto Barb (trade name)
Family: Cyprinidae

The Odessa Barb is a stunning, active schooling fish known for its vibrant colours and peaceful nature. Males display a striking red-orange metallic stripe along the body, especially when kept in a healthy group and good conditions, making them a beautiful addition to planted aquariums.

Originally from Asian freshwater habitats, this hardy barb thrives in community aquariums and is best kept in groups of 6 or more, where they feel secure and show their most natural behaviour. They are active mid-water swimmers and add constant movement and colour to an aquarium.

Odessa Barbs are peaceful and easy to care for, making them suitable for both beginner and experienced aquarists. They enjoy a well-planted aquarium with open swimming areas and appreciate a varied diet consisting of quality flakes, pellets, frozen and live foods.

Care Requirements:
Adult Size: ± 5–6 cm
Temperament: Peaceful, active schooling fish
Swimming Level: Middle water column
Minimum Group: 6+ fish
Diet: Omnivore
Temperature: 18–26°C
pH: 6.0–7.5

A beautiful choice for aquascapes where movement, colour and schooling behaviour are desired. The Odessa Barb brings a splash of red brilliance and lively character to any freshwater aquarium.
