Drosera burmannii, commonly known as the Tropical Sundew, is a fascinating carnivorous plant prized for its compact rosette shape and delicate, glistening leaves covered in sticky, insect-trapping tentacles. This remarkable little plant is an excellent addition to carnivorous plant collections, terrariums and specialised bog gardens.
Its leaves form a beautiful, low-growing rosette, with fine tentacles that produce sparkling droplets of sticky mucilage. These droplets attract and trap small insects, allowing the plant to absorb valuable nutrients from its prey.
Under suitable lighting, Drosera burmannii can develop attractive green, yellow-green and reddish tones, creating a striking contrast against its sparkling tentacles.
Supplied by Horizon Labs in tissue culture (TC) form, these plants are propagated under sterile laboratory conditions, providing a clean, healthy starting point for growing this fascinating carnivorous species.

Life cycle: Generally annual; can reproduce readily from seed
Suitable for: Carnivorous plant collections, bog gardens and suitable terrarium setups
Drosera burmannii is a miniature insect-catching marvel! Its sparkling tentacles and fascinating trapping mechanism make it one of the most interesting small carnivorous plants to observe.
Despite its delicate appearance, it can grow vigorously when provided with strong lighting, pure water and the correct growing medium.
Carefully remove the plantlets from the tissue culture cup.
Gently rinse away the nutrient gel using RO or distilled water.
Separate the plantlets carefully, avoiding damage to the delicate roots.
Plant into a moist, nutrient-free carnivorous plant substrate.
Initially maintain high humidity and bright, indirect light while gradually acclimatising the plants to normal growing conditions.
Keep the substrate consistently moist using only low-mineral water.
Important: Drosera burmannii is a terrestrial carnivorous plant, not a submerged aquarium plant. Never plant it underwater or in ordinary fertilised aquarium substrate.
Art of Aqua Tip: Drosera burmannii naturally has a relatively short life cycle. Allow mature plants to flower and produce seed to establish future generations of these fascinating sundews.
