Horizon Nesaea pedicellata 'Golden'

Nesaea pedicellata 'Golden', also commonly listed under the botanical name Ammannia pedicellata 'Golden', is a striking stem plant prized for its unusual yellow-green to golden foliage. Its elongated leaves develop along upright stems, creating a bright vertical accent that stands out beautifully against darker green, red, and bronze aquarium plants.

Under strong lighting, consistent CO₂ injection, and balanced nutrition, this variety develops its characteristic golden colour while maintaining compact, healthy growth. The warm yellow tones make it especially valuable in Dutch-style and colourful nature-style aquascapes, where it can be used to create contrast without relying exclusively on red plants.

Nesaea pedicellata 'Golden' grows best as a grouped midground or background plant. Regular trimming encourages side shoots and helps create a fuller, bushier display. Although it can adapt to a range of aquarium conditions, stable CO₂, good lighting, and consistent fertilisation are strongly recommended to maintain healthy growth and its distinctive colour.

Important Note

This Horizon plant is supplied as an in-vitro tissue culture plant grown under controlled laboratory conditions. Tissue culture plants are supplied free from algae, snails, parasites, and unwanted aquatic pests, making them an excellent choice for planted aquariums and sensitive shrimp setups.

Before planting, carefully remove the plant from the tissue culture cup and thoroughly rinse away all nutrient gel using clean aquarium water. Gently separate the plant into several small groups or individual stems, taking care not to damage the fine roots and young growing tips.

Plant each stem individually into the aquarium substrate with approximately 2–3 cm of spacing between stems. This allows adequate light and water circulation to reach the lower foliage while providing enough room for the plants to branch and form a dense group.

Nesaea pedicellata 'Golden' performs best in a nutrient-rich aquarium with consistent access to both macronutrients and trace elements. Regular liquid fertilisation is important, while a quality aquasoil or nutrient-rich substrate can support strong root development. When grown in inert sand or gravel, root tabs may provide additional nutrition.

Medium to high lighting is recommended to maintain compact growth and strong golden colouration. Under weak lighting, the plant may become greener, develop longer internodes, and lose some of its characteristic yellow appearance.

Consistent CO₂ injection is strongly recommended. Stable CO₂ helps produce healthier stems, better branching, stronger colour, and more compact growth. Avoid large fluctuations in CO₂, fertilisation, or water parameters, as this plant generally performs best under stable conditions.

Trim established stems above a healthy leaf node to encourage side shoots and create a fuller group. Healthy upper cuttings can be replanted into the substrate, while older lower sections can be removed if they become sparse or shaded.

Some tissue culture portions may experience temporary leaf loss, colour changes, or transition melt while adapting to submerged aquarium conditions. Maintain stable lighting, CO₂, nutrients, and water parameters, and leave healthy stems, roots, and growing points in place while new submerged growth develops.

Please note: Golden colouration varies according to lighting intensity, nutrients, CO₂ availability, water parameters, and the plant’s stage of development. As this is a living plant, the number of stems, leaf colour, size, and overall appearance may vary slightly from the photographs.
