Create a lush, natural underwater landscape with Horizon Sagittaria subulata, a hardy and versatile aquatic plant ideal for foreground and midground planting.
Commonly known as Dwarf Sagittaria, Sagittaria subulata is a popular aquarium plant recognised for its bright green, narrow, grass-like leaves. Its ability to spread through runners makes it an excellent choice for creating a natural, meadow-like carpet in planted aquariums.
Unlike more demanding carpeting plants, Sagittaria subulata adapts well to a wide range of aquarium conditions, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced aquascapers.
Under favourable conditions, this plant develops dense clusters of vibrant green foliage. Although commonly used in the foreground, its height can vary depending on lighting, nutrients and growing conditions, allowing it to serve as an attractive midground plant as well.
Supplied in Horizon tissue culture, this plant is cultivated under sterile laboratory conditions, providing a clean start without unwanted algae, snails or other common aquarium hitchhikers.

Sagittaria subulata is a hardy, adaptable plant that thrives in a variety of aquarium setups, including low-tech planted tanks.
Plant individual portions into a nutrient-rich substrate, leaving sufficient space between them to encourage the development of runners. Over time, new plantlets will emerge and gradually spread across the aquarium floor, creating a beautiful, natural carpet.
Although additional COâ‚‚ is not required, COâ‚‚ supplementation and adequate nutrients can encourage faster, healthier growth.
As a root-feeding plant, Sagittaria subulata benefits from a nutrient-rich substrate or the addition of root fertilisers.
Regular maintenance involves removing older or damaged leaves and thinning out runners when necessary to prevent overcrowding.
Aquascaping Tip: Sagittaria subulata does not always remain short. Under certain aquarium conditions, its leaves may grow considerably taller, making it equally suitable for natural-looking midground planting.
