Horizon Taxiphyllum sp. ‘Spiky Moss’ – Tissue Culture

Create lush, textured underwater landscapes with Horizon Taxiphyllum sp. ‘Spiky Moss’, a beautiful aquatic moss known for its distinctive spiky growth and vibrant green appearance.

Spiky Moss develops dense, branching shoots with pointed, triangular growth patterns, creating a rich, three-dimensional texture in planted aquariums. Its attractive growth makes it an excellent choice for attaching to driftwood, rocks and other hardscape features, adding a natural, mature appearance to any aquascape.

This versatile moss is particularly popular in nature-style aquariums, where it can be used to create moss-covered branches, miniature underwater trees and lush green accents.

Supplied in Horizon tissue culture, this moss is grown under sterile laboratory conditions, providing a clean start without unwanted algae, snails or other common aquarium hitchhikers.

Care & Maintenance

Spiky Moss is relatively easy to maintain and adapts well to a variety of aquarium conditions.

For the best results, attach small portions to driftwood, stones or other decorative surfaces using aquarium-safe glue or fine thread. Over time, the moss will develop dense, branching growth that creates a beautiful natural effect.

Although CO₂ injection is not essential, stable CO₂ levels, moderate lighting and good water circulation encourage healthier, more compact growth.

Regular trimming helps maintain its distinctive shape and prevents excessive buildup of debris within the moss.

Tissue Culture Preparation

  1. Carefully remove the moss from the tissue culture container.

  2. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove the nutrient gel.

  3. Divide into smaller portions.

  4. Attach to your chosen hardscape using aquarium-safe glue or thread.

  5. Maintain stable water conditions while the moss establishes itself.
