Red Lava Rock is a naturally porous volcanic stone with warm, earthy colouring and a rugged texture, making it a versatile hardscape material for aquariums, paludariums and terrariums.
Red Lava Rock features natural shades ranging from earthy red and reddish-brown to deeper rust and burgundy tones. Its highly textured, porous surface is filled with natural pits, cavities and irregularities, giving even smaller pieces plenty of character.
When wet, the colours become richer and deeper, bringing out the warm red and rust tones while highlighting the rock's natural texture.
Its relatively lightweight, porous structure makes Red Lava Rock extremely versatile when constructing hardscape.
Larger pieces can be used to create rock formations, slopes, islands and structural foundations, while smaller grades are excellent for adding texture, filling spaces between larger stones and creating natural transitions within a layout.
The porous surface also provides plenty of texture for attaching mosses and epiphytic plants, making it particularly useful in planted aquariums, paludariums and terrariums.
Red Lava Rock creates beautiful contrast against lush green plants and mosses and works particularly well with natural wood, darker substrates and earthy-toned sands and gravels.
It can also be combined across the different available sizes to create a more natural-looking hardscape, moving from larger feature stones through to smaller rubble and detailing material.
10–30 cm — Larger pieces ideal for feature stones, structural hardscape and building substantial rock formations.
3–8 cm — Medium pieces ideal for supporting larger formations, creating transitions and adding detail around feature stones.
1–2 cm — Small lava rock ideal for detailing, filling gaps, creating natural transitions and adding texture around larger hardscape.
