Introduction:
Echinodorus ‘Rose’ is a vibrant and elegant rosette plant from the Alismataceae family, prized for its broad leaves and warm pink to red coloration. Originating from South American genetic lines, this cultivated variety stands out for its impressive height and striking presence in the aquarium. With its fast growth rate and gracefully arching foliage, Echinodorus ‘Rose’ is a dramatic background feature plant that instantly adds depth, colour, and movement to aquascapes. Its large form and richly toned leaves make it a favourite among aquascapers designing nature-style, Amazonian, or Dutch-inspired layouts.
Temperature: 22–28°C
pH Range: 5.0–9.0
Hardness: Soft to hard water (very adaptable)
As a heavy root feeder, Echinodorus ‘Rose’ thrives in nutrient-rich substrates and demonstrates its best colouration when supplied with regular root tabs. Supplemental liquid fertilisers help prevent nutrient deficiencies and maintain consistent growth. CO₂ injection (20–30 mg/L) is beneficial and strongly recommended for optimal leaf size, colour intensity, and overall plant vigour. Under high to medium lighting, the plant develops lush pink tones and produces tall, broad foliage.
With a fully grown height of 60–80 cm, Echinodorus ‘Rose’ is a true background specimen that requires adequate vertical space. It performs well in aquasoil or nutrient-rich gravel, and its fast growth makes it ideal for filling out large aquariums. Provide moderate water flow to keep its broad leaves clean while avoiding excessive turbulence that may damage new growth. Ensure open space around the plant so light can penetrate evenly through the rosette.
Trim older or damaged leaves at the base to encourage healthy new growth and maintain a neat rosette shape. Because of its size and rapid growth rate, Echinodorus ‘Rose’ should not be overcrowded or placed too close to hardscape that may limit its expansion. Regular root feeding helps sustain vibrant colouration, while stable CO₂ and lighting conditions prevent leaf melt. For propagation, allow the plant to develop adventitious plantlets on its flower stalk — these can be detached and replanted once roots form.
Echinodorus ‘Rose’ makes a bold and beautiful statement in any aquarium, offering a combination of strong structure, warm colour, and lush growth. Perfect for aquarists looking to create a dramatic background display, this plant rewards consistent care with impressive size and stunning foliage.
